April 8 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
The Word Shows He is Compassionate

Daily Scripture
Hosea 14:6-8
His branches shall spread; His beauty shall be like an olive tree, And his fragrance like Lebanon. Those who dwell under his shadow shall return; They shall be revived like grain, And grow like a vine. Their scent shall be like the wine of Lebanon. "Ephraim shall say, 'What have I to do anymore with idols?' I have heard and observed him. I am like a green cypress tree; Your fruit is found in Me.”

Encouragement
In the last chapter of the book of Hosea, the prophet repeats the image of Israel as a fruitful plant or tree watered and sustained by his relationship with the Lord. As Hosea demonstrated uncompromising compassion for his unfaithful wife Gomer. God also shows us His unfailing love to us even when we have failed Him.

Apply God’s Word
His love for us is without end. He has a compassion that will not be changed by our sometimes foolish ways. There is ample truth in scripture that we bring on the consequences of our actions, both good and bad. But He wants us to see Him as He showed us through the story in Hosea. So if for some reason you are feeling like a failure, be encouraged that God see things much differently. Repent for whatever you have done, and walk in His forgiveness and His love.

Come into His Presence
Father, help us to see You as the loving Father You are. At times we feel beat down for wrongs we have done, and don’t want to go on. But, today we chose to move past the feelings of failure. Past events are in the past and our future is secure. Thank You for Your compassionate ways, Father. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.
