April 3 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
A Day At God's House

Daily Scripture
Psalm 84:10-12 (HCSB)
"Better a day at Your courts than a thousand anywhere else. I would rather be at the door of the house of my God than to live in the tents of wicked people. For the Lord God is a sun and shield. The Lord gives grace and glory; He does not withhold the good from those who live with integrity. Happy is the person who trusts in You, Lord of Hosts!"

Encouragement
How often the world, with all of its glitz and glitter, seems to pull us away from what truly matters... God and His glory. The psalmist sings a praise to God, and the Lord saw fit to include it in His holy word, not only for the original audience, but also for us today. Every day is just like the one before and the one after; it's just that the one after may contain more inventions and upgrades, but the competition is the same. Society tries to rule out the importance of being content with God more and more. Desiring God, I've come to understand, is an intentionally learned process. It's not something that happens overnight. It's something that is worked on each and every day. Notice that God does not compete with everything else that is vying for our attention because He is at a higher level and does not place Himself in competition with His creation. It is up to us to decide whether the words of the above psalm will move us to action or choose to ignore them and stay mediocre.

Apply God’s Word
So what is your choice? How do these words resonate with you? Will you sacrifice a TV show, a few hours on Facebook or whatever is a distraction to spend time with God? Or will you simply read this and go about your day, feeling all spiritual because you set aside the ten minutes it took to read this? Getting to the place where God is your heart's number one desire is a process. I encourage you to see it as such. Don't beat yourself up if you're easily distracted, but allow this devotional to spur on your desire for a deeper walk with Him. Take it one day at a time. The long and short of it: You're never fully there until you see Jesus face to face when you're in heaven. While here on earth, our humanity is always a struggle when we're seeking after the Lord.

Come into His Presence
Lord, conform my will and desires to what You want for my life. Help me to keep my eyes on You, and to seek first Your kingdom and righteousness. Forgive me for all the times I've fallen and lead me on Your path of righteousness. In Jesus name, amen.
