July 28 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
A New Song

Daily Scripture
Psalm 96:9 (HCSB)
"Worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness; tremble before Him, all the earth."

Encouragement
There are many books on worship and praise to the Lord. But the best way to learn worship is to do just what is spoken of in this psalm. For starters the Psalmist encourages the worshipers to sing a new song to the Lord. Singing a new song to the Lord can be one you learn, or it can be a song you make up that offers praise and worship to Him. The more you participate in this exercise, the more you'll find yourself wanting to do it even more. To worship Him in the splendor, or beauty of His holiness, is to become aware of and to have a love for His holiness. To tremble before Him means to have a deep respect for Him, not to be afraid of Him. God's desire for each and every one of us is fellowship. That's why He created men and women, and that's why Jesus came to redeem men and women after sin entered the world (see John 3:16).

Take Action!
Find a place to get alone with God and concentrate on Him. What sticks out in your mind as you focus on His goodness? Then voice it in a personal song of praise to Him. It doesn't have to be the greatest sounding song. To Him, it already is because it is a praise springing forth from your heart. Sing about a recent miracle, or how He saved you. If you think about it, many of these psalms are just that; praises to God. He loves you, and He wants you to love Him back and be in awe of Him.

Come into His Presence
Praise be to You, O God, for all that You have done in my life! May my worship always be sincere and my praise always be from a pure heart. In Jesus' name, amen.
