July 1 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
The Supernatural

Daily Scripture
1 Corinthians 2:4-5
"And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God."

Encouragement
The Corinthian people were idol worshipers and greatly influenced by highly educated Greek philosophers. Why would they believe him when he preached about the basic story of Christ’s life, death, burial and resurrection if there were no mighty signs and wonders done when he called on the name of the Lord? They would have said, “This is just a foolish story”. But the supernatural power that the Corinthian people saw with their own eyes, made them believe in the gospel. While growing up in Southern Illinois where there are several kinds of snakes, many of which are poisonous, I was a witness to many snakes being killed. You may not be aware of this, but a snake’s body will continue to move after death, even if the head is detached from the body! Let’s compare that in the spiritual sense to GOD’s judgment on the serpent (satan) after he tricked the first man and woman into disobeying GOD. GOD said that satan would strike the heel of the woman’s offspring, fulfilled by Jesus dying on the cross. BUT He said that satan’s head would be crushed! That’s a death blow!
Take Action!
It is hard to deny the power of the gospel when blinded eyes are opened and deaf ears unstopped. Let the 21st century church rise up and preach the same gospel that Paul preached and see the supernatural signs and wonders being done, and the church will influence their neighborhood and city just like Paul’s ministry influenced Asia and southeast Europe.

Come into His Presence
Father God, thank You for filling me with Your Spirit. I pray for Your church, especially in America, that there would be supernatural wonders and a brand new awakening. Thank You for doing a new work in my town, and in me. In Jesus' name, amen.
