August 7 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
Insecurity to Assuredly

Daily Scripture
Isaiah 32:17
The work of righteousness will be peace, And the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever. My people will dwell in a peaceful habitation, in secure dwellings, and in quiet resting places, Though hail comes down on the forest, And the city is brought low in humiliation. Blessed are you who sow beside all waters, who send out freely the feet of the ox and the donkey.”

Encouragement
God was giving His children, in this verse from Isaiah, an invitation to come into his peace, His habitation. His dwelling place is a place of safety and rest. It also is a place where there is assurance. The word assurance come from the Hebrew word Betah. It simply means to trust, be confident and have no feelings of suspicion. Let me put it another way. The opposite of Betah is when someone lacks trust or is suspicious about someone or something. They will most likely feel that they can’t trust much if anything around them, and in this situation there is little to no peace.

Take Action!
You and I have a dwelling place that God has created for us. It’s a place where we can find the peace that we so desperately need. It may seem like the world around you is slipping from your control. It may seem there is nothing to trust or depend on, but God has a place where we can hide out and find rest from all weariness.

Come into His Presence
Father, in You we have peace. My position of righteousness is made clear by the peace I am experiencing. Increase that peace today as I trust in Your righteousness, not mine. In Jesus' Name I pray. Amen.
