August 1 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
Good and Gracious God

Daily Scripture
Psalm 103:10-14, 19 (HCSB)
"He has not dealt with us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our offenses. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His faithful love toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far He removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him. For He knows what we are made of, remembering that we are dust...The Lord has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom rules over all."

Encouragement
The love and faithfulness of God, in light of our emotional ups and downs is amazing. Our sins call for His judgment, and even in His judgment and discipline He offers hope and second, third, fourth and infinite chances. He knows us like no other and still treats us as His prized possessions. His ultimate act of love for mankind is seen in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus (see John 3:16; Romans 5:8). We are not treated as our sins deserve. We deserve to be annihilated and thrown into hell! But He offers us all salvation from that end with the additional offer of spending eternity with Him. Not only that, but He also offers His Holy Spirit to be with us every minute of this life, to guide and give us wisdom.

Take Action!
We could never be good enough to deserve God's love on our own. People who believe that are wrong. But He is calling everyone to come to Him for salvation and rest from having to worry about what tomorrow will bring, or where they will go when they die. This is all part of God's great plan...for everyone to know Him and be saved (see 2 Peter 3:8-10). Come to Him today. You can do this by confessing that Jesus is Lord and asking Him to be you Lord and Savior.

Come into His Presence
Lord, thank You for not treating us as we deserve because of our human emotions. You know every situation and how we will react... and You still love us. Let us not take that for granted, but be energized to love and serve You all the more. Thank You for being who You are, for Your faithfulness and love. In Jesus' name, amen.
