August 12 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
How Dare He

Daily Scripture
John 10:10
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Encouragement
That ole lying, stealing, no good, devil... Just who does he think he is? I once envisioned him trying to reach me, but he was bound by Christ in shackles and chains. He made a lot of noise (snarling and growling), and tried to be very intimidating as he lunged at me, but the clanging of the chains that bound him was louder as they revealed that he was under the control of Christ. This is the way we need to see the devil for "who he really is" in our lives. He may try to influence us, but the one who holds the keys to those shackles is protecting us. Sometimes we get a little too close to see, or listen a little too often to what the devil does or says. We get lost in the confusion of the worldly things around us and the viewpoints of others to the point of panicking. We are missing what God has to say, or how He sees the situation we are experiencing. Our God has power over any schemes of the devil because He has already won ANY battle that we face. We just need to trust and have hope in the Lord to do a great work within us and through us as we lean on Him for guidance, and we are obedient to His will, knowing all the while that He is in control.

Take Action!
Don't allow the devil to steal the spiritual things in your life! Draw a line in the sand and stand firm against his attacks, and declare that he has NO RIGHTS to those things. They are given to you as gifts from your Heavenly Father because you are HIS child. Nobody messes with the King's kids, so "get thee behind us Satan!" Prepare for battle and protect yourself with the FULL armor of God. Always remember, as a child of God the battle has already been won on behalf of all of us! Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in the light of His glory and grace. Be at peace.

Come into His Presence
Thank you, Lord, that you help us in our time of need. You know how devious the devil can be, and how much he wants to undermine everything good you have placed in our life. Help us to not allow him passage to Your gifts that You have given. He has no rights to the things that belong to You, and that includes us! In Jesus name, AMEN!
