August 10 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme      A Forever Covenant Daily Scripture Psalm 111:3-5 (HCSB)  "All that He does is splendid and majestic; His righteousness endures forever. He has caused His wonderful works to be remembered. The Lord is gracious and compassionate. He has provided food for those who fear Him; He remembers His covenant forever." Encouragement God keeps His covenants...period. In the Old Testament, He promised His continued presence, and blessings, for those who walk according to His commands, and a lack of His presence and trouble for those who turn away from His covenant. This concept of God's covenants are all laid out in the Pentateuch (Genesis-Deuteronomy). Ever since God's covenant has been set up, Israel turned away from Him to idols. But as soon as they returned to the Lord, He waited there to show them His blessings and favor, even if they still had to face the consequences of being covenant breakers. It is always so much easier when we just do what He says. All throughout the Old Testament, God reveals that there will be a New Covenant, which is seen in the person of Jesus. Take Action! The lesson here is that we need to be people of the word of God, and not depend simply on other good books and/or what the pastor has to say on Sunday morning. Sure they may all be good, but nothing beats a good study in the word, and a cultivating of ones relationship with the covenant-making God. When we depend on the so-called "popular Scriptures," which are often taken out of context, we wind up with a Christ-less Christianity. This is why we must study the word for ourselves to learn what pleases God and get to know Him for ourselves. Remember that this is a personal relationship with Jesus. Come into His Presence Lord, You are the covenant-making God, and I want to get to know You. Reveal Yourself to me, and to everyone who seeks Your face. We are looking to know You and how to please You, not just because You can work miracles. Help us to seek Your face, and not just Your miracles.
