May 1 Edify Devotional

Today’s Devotional Theme
Simply Amazing

Daily Scripture
Psalms 143:5
I meditate on all your works and consider what your hands have done.”

Encouragement
King David had plenty to be amazed by. This Psalms was written sometime around 979 BC. David had been King for some 30 years, and he no doubt seen it all. The Palace, the wealth, power. He had it all, so to speak. But, in our text we find his wonder was not limited to the things he possessed, but what possessed him. King David was astonished at the works of the hands of his Creator.

Apply God’s Word
It’s easy for anyone to get caught up in the moment of material possessions. Things that have little or no lasting value can easily become the focus of our fascination. Matthew 6:19-21: "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”. To learn from David, let’s take our eyes off of the things He has blessed us with, and place our fascinations on His works. His hands can do in a moment what we take 10,000 lifetimes to accomplish. Let’s possess what we have and not allow those things to possess us today.

Come into His Presence
Father, I stand amazed at You. Your Mercies are new each morning and Your hands are at work even now to perform miracle before my very eyes. Thank You…You’re an amazing God.
